Week in Review

bamix immersion blender

Can you believe it is only four days until Christmas? I have already planned my menu which is the same from year to year so, there is really nothing to plan. How about you, do you have a traditional menu?

Smoked Turkey takes front and center on our table along with stuffing, Broccoli Nut Casserole, Sweet Potato Souffle, mashed potatoes, creamed onions and Pumpkin Pies. We do have a Christmas birthday boy so birthday cake (Lazy Woman’s Cake) is also on the menu.

I am an early shopper and like to begin my shopping in the spring. I know it is early but this allows me to take advantage of sales throughout the year. Wrapping, though, is another subject. Often, I am up most of Christmas Eve wrapping – coffee works wonders!

Our second oldest son and daughter-in-law arrive for the festivities this afternoon and my mother and sister will arrive Christmas Eve. Are you staying home or travelling for the holidays?

Despite the busyness the week before Christmas brings, I want to share with you another kitchen gadget that I use and enjoy. This one is also available from my affiliate partner – the Bamix Immersion Blender. To be honest, I am not sure how I ever lived without it! Since I make kefir smoothies each morning to go with our sourdough pancakes, I use it at least once a day and often more!

Let me tell you, this baby is a workhorse. It makes frozen strawberries and blueberries dissolve into the creamy smoothie lickity split. This is not the first immersion blender that I have owned. Not being sure I that I would actually use an immersion blender, I purchased from my affiliate partner, the Cuisinart Smart Stick which is not as expensive as the Bamix. Remember the saying, ‘You get what you pay for”?

While the Cuisinart work well for some people, it broke under my usage in only a couple of months. The inside shaft that attaches the blending end to the motor stripped out and although John fixed it once with epoxy, the second time it broke, he said, and I quote, “buy another one!”. So, I did some investigating and found the Bamix Immersion Blender.

The Bamix has a 7 inch shaft which means I can reach the bottom of most of my large pots to blend soups! It also comes with four blades for different tasks. So far, I just keep the all purpose blade on since it does all that I need.

If you are looking for a gift for yourself or someone special, I highly recommend the Bamix Immersion Blender.

Now, in no particular order, this week’s links around the blogosphere:

  1. I own two cheaper immersion blenders and use them all the time. I hate pulling out my big stand mixer so I’m wondering if you have tried making whipped cream with your immersion blender. I’ve heard it can be done but I can’t seem to make it work with mine. Mine are both on their last legs so I’m starting the search for a new one.

    • Katie, The Bamix one of the attachments is specifically for whipping cream – I have not personally tried it but am confident that it would work well. I will be whipping cream for pumpkin pies on Christmas and will let you know!

  2. My family has a tradition that we celebrate on Christmas Eve evening and we make a bunch of snacky foods to munch on and then open presents and just hang out! This works nice too because then we can go to my in laws on Christmas day and we don’t have to go to both in one day! :)
