latte macchiato with cocoa powder I have a confession to make.

If you have been around awhile, you know that I have been on the GAPS diet (affiliate link) for 1 1/2 years and followed it religiously. The results have been amazing! Through the GAPS diet, I have relief from rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and I am eating meat again after a 30+ year allergy!

But, back to my confession.

I have had off-GAPS “treats” these past couple of days!

How to Get Rid of Gallstones Naturally

gallbladder cleanse presented by Cultured Palate

Have you ever had a gallbladder attack?

I had my first when pregnant with our 8th child and after an all-you-can eat pizza buffet – a high fat meat! It was no fun, in fact, it was quite painful! As a nurse, I knew that I was a prime candidate for gallbladder surgery. Having cared for gallbladder patients, I knew that it was a difficult surgery and I did not want it! In seeking an alternative to gallbladder surgery, my father introduced me to a gallbladder cleanse, also called a gallbladder flush.

GAPS and Osteoporosis

As  shared earlier in GAPS – My Experience, I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at 47 years of age. And, this was before menopause! Normally, women may be diagnosed with osteopenia before menopause and after menopause it progresses to osteoporosis. Not me – I skipped osteopenia and went straight to osteoporosis!

If you are not familiar with osteopenia and osteoporosis and the difference between the two, let me give the definition of each.

Lacto-Fermentation – What Is It?

In the following, I have linked to products from my affiliate partners that I personally use and recommend.

You may have noticed my latest recipe additions – Sauerkraut and Fermented Carrots - are fermented. Being on the GAPS Diet and reading about the health benefits of probiotics, I have purposefully added them to our family’s diet. One way to get probiotics is through fermented foods. But, not just “fermented” as in pickled, I mean “fermented” using the lacto-fermentation process. So, what is lacto-fermentation and why is it so healthy?

Results of the GAPS Diet

While we undertook the GAPS Diet as a family experiment, to make sure everyone had healthy gut bacteria, the results have been encouraging. I have detailed my experience with the GAPS (relief from rheumatoid arthritis pain and ability to eat meat after a 30 year “allergy”) but the family has also benefited. I see results of the GAPS diet in several areas.

GAPS Introduction Diet – Week 2

We have just completed our second week on the GAPS Introduction Diet as a family. If you are not familiar with GAPS, you might like to read the GAPS Review to find out more. It definitely went much smoother than the first week! We continued with about 2 days per stage and very few symptoms of die-off were experienced. Everyone is feeling much better.

In Stage 4, I had introduced nut muffins which our bodies were just not ready to digest. At the end of the week, I tried them again, successfully this time – everyone was ecstatic! Anything resembling bread or a bread product was delicious!

GAPS – Introduction Diet

The following contains links to products from my affiliate partners that I personally use and recommend.

Driving home from Georgia after attending my father-in-law’s funeral, I read aloud the GAPS book. It is such an interesting book and made so much sense, as far as, our overall health being related to our intestinal health. I had posted earlier about my experience with GAPS and the amazing relief I have found from my arthritis pain, as well as, beginning to eat meat for the first time in 30 years.
