Many of you know about our lifestyle change from the corporate world to starting a vineyard. If you are new, you can read about it here. During this transition, I found and used 10 sites that help you earn money from home.
Yes, you read that right. By using these sites, you can earn extra money from the comfort of your own home.
I have always been frugal but our move from Alabama to Texas taught me more about frugality than I had ever known! We had counted on our house in Alabama selling to fund the vineyard. It did, finally, after 5 years and we had a Yeah! The House Sold Party! While waiting for it to sell, I began searching for ways to make extra money and still stay at home with the children.
Losing the Roussane grapes this past year to bunch rot has reminded us that even in year’s of plenty, it is wise to save for the future and continue our frugal lifestyle. For me, it is a matter of being a good steward and planning for the future. We may have a fabulous grape harvest one year and the next year be wiped out by hail…or bunch rot!
In fact, my first blog was born out of a desire to help others live frugally making the most of what they have. I not only enjoy blogging and helping others but I am also making money at it! But, it has taken several years. If you enjoy writing, have something you are passionate about and love sharing it with others, you might want to start a blog.
In the beginning, I did not make money blogging, but it has grown to be more than I ever dreamed! I love the people I have “met” and the emails and comments about how our life has encouraged and helped you is very encouraging to me!
So, if blogging sounds like something for you, get started…knowing it will take a lot of hard work but the rewards are well worth the effort.
In the meantime, here are the 10 sites that I found to help you earn money from home.
Earn Money from Home – 10 Sites to Get You Started
Ebates is my absolute favorite! This gives you cash back when you go through their site to make online purchases – up to 40%! They also offer coupons and deals for many of the stores. It is quick and easy to sign up and just for signing up you get $10!
You already shop so you might as well get paid for it!
To use Ebates:
- Sign up and receive $10
- Search for the store you want.
- When you find the store, click “shop now” and a new tab will open to that website.
- Shop and purchase as you normally would. Once you make a purchase, you will receive an email confirming your cash back.
- Each quarter you cash back will be sent to you by check or paypal.
They also have a referral program which can really make you money. For each friend that signs up and makes a purchase of $25, you will get $25. Plus, they will get $10! It is definitely worth the effort! Seriously, this is FREE money for you and for your friends!
Let’s face it, if we like something, we are going to share it. We do it with movies, restaurants, recipes… That is why millions of people use Ebates – because someone told them how good it is!
When I first started, my biggest challenge was to remember to use it for online shopping. Once I started receiving checks from them though, it wasn’t so hard to remember!
Another site to use is Swagbucks which rewards members with points that can be redeemed for gift cards. My favorite is the Amazon gift card! You can’t go wrong with an Amazon gift card can you?
One of the items I bought with an Amazon gift card earned through swagbucks was my 17″ Lodge cast iron skillet! I still love it and use it daily.
There are several ways to earn points:
- Search the web using their yahoo based search engine
- Answer surveys
- Watch videos
- Exclusive offers – example: sign up for a certain free trial and win points
- Play games Swagcodes – found on Facebook, Twitter, blog. Enter the code and get points
Earn swagbuck points for doing what you are already doing online!
There are no minimums to meet for cashing out your points. As soon as you have enough for a gift card, you can get it! The smallest denomination is a $3 gift card.

Using the referral or influencer program, you can get your cleaning supplies free delivered right to your door AND you save money! You no longer have to waste time and gas driving to the store and you no longer have to worry about running out of items you use .
Pinecone Reasearch is a survey company that pays per survey completed. Points are awarded that can be redeemed for cash or prizes. The surveys do not take very long to complete which is nice.
Often survey questions are asked about potential products before they hit the market. It is fun to have a say in which products make it to the stores and which do not!
There are many survey companies out there and I have personally used Pinecone Research with success. Answering surveys will not make you rich but it is a way to make extra money that does not take a lot of time.
Craigslist is an online classified ads site of items to sell and buy. Most sales occur locally but because you can search nationwide, you can find what you are looking for anywhere in the country.
We have sold things on Craigslist like cars, storage shed, furniture… They even have a free section on which we have found homes for kittens.
Sign up is free and there are no charges for selling.
Payment is normally made in person if the buyer is local otherwise, terms are worked out between the buyer and the seller.
So, before throwing something out, put an ad on Craigslist – one man’s junk is another man’s treasure!
I have sold several books on Amazon, the type that I have read once and would probably never read again. It is easy to sign up for either the free selling (if you just have a few items to sell) or seller central (if you have a lot of items to sell) which has a fee associated with it. I have done the individual seller option.
It is easy to list the items and they email you when your item is purchased. You can print a shipping label and notify the buyer when you ship the item.
Probably the most popular selling site is Ebay. Whether you set up an auction or “Buy it Now”, you will see traffic on your items. There is a lot of competition but patience pays off. Think of anything around the house that you are not using – shoes, purse, book, cell phone… We sold Polish Pottery on Ebay.
Fees are assessed – you get 50 free listings per month and after that it is 30 cents a listing. You only pay seller fees when an item sells – 10% of the total amount of the sale.
Payment for items sold is handled through Paypal.
I know people make a full time living selling on Ebay but I normally try Craigslist first since it is free.
If you are creative and artsy, an Etsy store may be just what you are looking for. All items must be handmade to be sold on Etsy. Great quality and good customer service will set you apart!
Since the Spanish Tile Murals are handmade, I started an Etsy store for them. But, I found out that they must be handmade by ME so I could not sell them there.
I have bought several things from Etsy like the vinyl backgrounds I use for the recipe photos, wooden items, crochet patterns… My sister bought some printables for invitations for a party she was having. The sky is the limit when you look through Etsy at the possibilities of creative things to sell.
Can you do captions for videos, transcriptions, or translations? REV is a company that my daughter-in-law, Victoria, has used and really enjoyed. She added captions to videos and got paid for it. All you need to get started are good internet connection, audio on your computer, typing, grammar and spelling skills. They give you the instructions to follow.
There is an application process that is not hard and it took a couple of weeks before Victoria was approved.
People who make a full time living captioning videos may get foot pedals to help them pause the videos more efficiently and nicer headphones to have better sound quality. But, to get started you do not need these.
Fiverr is a company where you can sell your services. If you can design, create logos, edit, write, proof read, do art work – there are over 100 categories to browse to get ideas.
Here are the steps to get started:
- Sign up is free and easy
- Create a Gig – the term used for the service sold
- Determine your price
- Receive orders
- Provide quality service
- Get paid
There is no investment required to get started but you do need time to get familiar with their marketplace.
As with the other companies listed, you can decide how much you want to work and how much time you want to spend.
Make money at home doing what you love and are passionate about! As you can see, there are companies online through which you can earn extra income and even make a full time living.
Have you had experience with any of these companies or others? I would love to hear about it – leave a comment!
