One of our family Christmas traditions is a "trim-the-tree" party with a dinner buffet.
Our buffet consists of meats and cheeses to make your own sandwich, shrimp, herring, Christmas cookies and spiced tea just to hit the highlights! One of the fancier items, though, is the salmon ball!
As part of the dinner buffet, I always make a salmon ball - year after year. It is one of those appetizers that never grows old. Not only is it extremely easy to make but it looks as though you spent much more time on it than you did!
As you know, if you have been reading for awhile, I have been trying to incorporate more fish into our diet.
After all, fish is brain food and contains lots protein, vitamins B, D and omega 3 fatty acids - it is a nutritional powerhouse!
This salmon ball recipe is one that I might just have to stop saving for the holiday season and begin serving more often. It makes a really simple snack or a fun dish to bring to a potluck!
How To Make A Salmon Ball
- Drain the salmon and separate the bones.
- Mix all ingredients together.
- Shape into a ball.
- Roll in chopped nuts (I use pecans) or chopped parsley.
- Serve with crackers

- 8 oz cream cheese
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 tsp. horseradish
- ½ cups chopped nuts or parsley
