My Cold Pressed Carrot Juice Recipe is designed for maximum nutrition. Carrot juice recipes can be delicious and easy to make - with or without a juicer.
And, this Cold Pressed Carrot Juice recipe is no exception. I will explain exactly what "cold-pressed" juice means and why it is important.
However, this recipe can be made and is delicious with any type of juicer.
What Does Cold Pressed Mean?
The type of juicer used for the juicing determines whether a juice is cold-pressed or not.
Cold pressed juice is juice from a masticating juicers that does not produce the heat that other juicers do.
According to Wikipedia,
Cold-pressed juice refers to juice that uses a hydraulic press to extract juice from fruit and vegetables, as opposed to other methods such as centrifugal or single auger.
Masticating juicers use hydraulic power to crush the juice from the fiber of plants and tend to be slower and they produce less juice.
So, with a cold pressed juice, the juice is not subjected to heat from the juicing process which can destroy nutrient value.
You can find out more about the different types of juicer and a review of the juicers I have owned on my Carrot Juice Recipes page.
Why Are Most Cold Pressed Juice Recipes an Orange Juice Recipe?
An orange juice recipe is probably the most common cold pressed juice recipe you will find. That is because oranges, like other citrus fruits, can be easily juiced by squeezing without a juicer.
Orange juice is included in my Cold Pressed Carrot Juice Recipe but with juicers so readily available and affordable, many people now have a masticating juicer to make cold pressed juices at home.
Even if you do not have a masticating juicer, the following recipe is packed with nutrition and tastes delish!
Is Heat Bad for Fresh Juices?
Heat can destroy the vitamins and enzymes found in fresh juices. However, I have seen conflicting reports that indicate at what temperature this occurs. I have seen as low as 118F.
There is definitely a debate because carrots, spinach and cabbage are vegetables that release higher levels of antioxidants and carotenoids when exposed to heat.
And, at high temps, these are nutrients are weakened.
But, there does seem to be complete agreement that drinking carrot juice can have many healthy benefits.
So, however you drink it, and whatever method you use to juice, I think the point is, to drink your carrot juice.
Is It Worth Spending the Extra Money on a Masticating Juicer?
I really cannot tell you which is right for you. You know your budget and your goals with juicing. I will, however, give you my experience.
As a busy mom of a large family, there are a lot of demands on my time. Just like you have demands on your time.
I had a masticating juicer first and while we enjoyed the juices, I found it to be slow and took a lot of time to clean.
Because I am frugal, and the pulp came out still wet with juice, I normally ran it back through the juicer a second time, to get as much juice out as possible.
As you can imagine, it took a long time - time I felt like I did not have. The result - I stopped juicing.
After buying a centrifugal juicer, I realized three things:
- Juicing went much quicker.
- Clean up after juicing was quicker
- No longer did I need to run the pulp through a second time.
So, I now juice frequently if not daily, for the whole family.
There is a balance so, with your juicing goals in mind, do what your time and your budget allows for.
