Learn how to make salad dressing in your own kitchen. It is so quick and easy, you will wonder why you didn't create your own salad dressing recipe sooner! Everyone needs a "house salad dressing'!

I read somewhere that each home should have their own house dressing, just like restaurants.

That convinced me that I want my meals to be like a fine restaurant.

So, today, I am going to show you how easy it is to make salad dressing and even give a basic salad dressing recipe to get you started!

Since I have been on the GAPS diet for a while with such phenomenal results, I have become very conscious of the ingredients in our foods.

If it is not homemade, I read the label. I have been shocked at some of what I thought were healthy foods - they turned out to be not so healthy.

Ugh!- it is hard to believe how many ingredients some processed foods have! Not to mention how difficult some are to pronounce!

One food that is particularly filled with unnecessary ingredients is salad dressing. And, even the "healthier" brands will have canola oil which can go rancid quickly.

This causes the manufacturers to use a deodorizing process to cover up the smell - this process also causes trans fats to be produced!

So, I would like to share with you my basic house salad dressing and teach you to make your own - it really is easy peasy!

Please keep in mind that the following recipe is just a start. Don't be afraid to use your own imagination and try different spice blends.

The recipe follows the video along with resources that you will see me use.

    Video Resources:

These are items, available from my affiliate, that I use to make homemade salad dressing. If you are like me, you love to see what others use and enjoy. So, these links will take you to amazon or my trusted spice provider.

    • Virgin Olive Oil is a must for a good salad dressing plus, it provides you with oleic acid.
    • Raw Apple Cider Vinegar gives that little twang plus, with the "mother" you are getting extra health benefits and probiotics. The mother is the sediment in the bottle of the jar and it contains enzymes, proteins, and probiotics. Probiotics are good-for-you bacteria that help your digestion.
    • 2 Cup Measuring Cup is what I always used to mix the salad dressing in. I have now found and absolutely love this salad dressing shaker because I just add all my ingredients, put the top on and shake! It saves me time and clean-up!
    • I love Wilderness Family Naturals because their spices are so fresh and aromatic. Many items they have are organic and I buy in bulk. When I get a new shipment (and I order a bunch at once to save shipping), I put the bags into air tight storage buckets and keep them in a closet. This helps keep them fresh. I keep a small amount of each spice in jars on my kitchen shelf.

Tips for Making Your Own Dressing Recipe

    • Before I give you the basic recipe, let me remind you that this is a basic recipe to get you started. Use your imagination ... rosemary, sage, Italian blends, honey and mustard - the possibilities are endless! You can even make a creamy dressing by cutting the  raw apple cider vinegar down to ¼ c. and adding cultured sour cream to the basic recipe.
    • This recipe is easily doubled, tripled, quadrupled so you always have some on hand. If you make it ahead the spices blend together so that it is even more delicious!

How long would this keep in the fridge? My husband and I don't often use salad dressing but would like to have some on hand for guests.

Jazzmin, I don't refrigerate mine - if you do, the olive oil will solidify. I keep it in my pantry (it cool and dry) for several months and the flavors just get better!

Homemade dressing is so much more flavourful than store bought and of course healthier, love your suggestions to add different herbs and spices!
